Bachelor of Architecture

The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program leads to a professional degree accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)--the educational credentials needed for licensure as a registered, practicing architect.

The primary mission of the B.Arch program is to prepare students for the practice of architecture. The School fulfills this mission through an urban design studio, a comprehensive building design studio and various lecture courses. B.Arch students use the School and faculty as rich resources in the development of their professional interests.

The B.Arch. is offered in two modalities, a traditional 1-year Face to Face Program and an online 2-year program.

Application and Admission Requirements

For Fall admissions, the SAET typically begins to review applications on February 1.  Admission is competitive and considered on a space-available basis. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the application materials are submitted by the university deadline. The exact date is posted on the university website.

The following items must be submitted using the online Application Form.

  1. A completed online APPLICATION FORM. The Returning Applicant form is for students that are or were FAMU students. The First-Time Applicant form is for students that never attended FAMU.
  2. A Minimum 2.75/4.0 GPA in the last 60 credits of the FAMU Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies or an equivalent undergraduate degree in architecture.

The following items must be submitted to the Director of the Professional Programs in Architecture (olivier.chamel@famu.edu).

  • A PORTFOLIO of recent design studio work. The PDF file must illustrate the skills and abilities expected from the FAMU SAET ARC program’s 4th-year design studios.
  • TOEFL Scores from International students. International applicants are also advised to have their transcript reviewed by an education evaluation service such as World Education Services (WES)
  • An UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT from Transfer students. While items #1 and #2 provide admission to the program, the transcript will determine placement. The Director will confirm that the applicant’s undergraduate architecture degree classes match FAMU’s 4-year architecture degree.
